Tata Steel Reports Stable Indian Output Amid Planned Maintenance and Strong Overseas Performance

Tata Steel produced 5.26 million tons of crude steel at its domestic Indian plants in the first quarter of the 2025/2026 fiscal year (April–June), nearly unchanged from 5.27 million tons a year earlier. However, output declined 3.3% from the previous quarter, largely due to scheduled maintenance work. Steel sales in India totaled 4.75 million tons, down 3.8% year-on-year. The company cited repair-related shutdowns at its Jamshedpur site (blast furnace G) and the Neelachal Ispat Nigam Limited (NINL) plant as key drivers behind reduced finished steel production. NINL has since resumed operations, while Jamshedpur’s furnace repairs are scheduled for completion in July.

Internationally, Tata Steel Netherlands delivered a slight year-on-year improvement, producing 1.7 million tons of steel and selling 1.5 million tons. In the UK, Tata Steel shipped 0.6 million tons, with operations supported by processing purchased raw materials. Progress continues on constructing an electric arc furnace in Port Talbot, with groundwork beginning this month.

Tata Steel’s Indian production in the 2024/2025 fiscal year reached a record 21.7 million tons, a 4.3% increase year-on-year. Despite near-flat quarterly figures, the company’s overall trajectory underscores resilience amid scheduled disruptions and growing overseas activity.
