TMK's Taganrog Metallurgical Plant Expands Steel Transportation and Logistics

Russian pipemaker TMK's Taganrog metallurgical plant (Tagmet) has expanded its steel transportation capabilities and improved intra-shop logistics, Kallanish reports. "Tagmet has implemented the next stage of modernisation of the electric furnace melting shop (ESAF)," it says. "

The division put into operation a 'smart' steel carrier with increased load capacity, and in the electric arc furnace (EAF) section, the path of the steel car has been optimized."The Taganrog Iron and Steel Factory (TAGMET) was founded in 1896 as a Russian-Belgian joint-stock company, taking advantage of the proximity to raw material supplies, geographical position and transport terminals of Taganrog.

Today, TAGMET is part of the TMK Group, being the largest manufacturer of steel pipes in the South of Russia. The company cooperates with more than five thousand customers and is known for the reliability and high quality of its pipe products, which are widely used in the oil and gas, agriculture, civil and industrial engineering, and power industries.

One of the key objectives of the enterprise is the fundamental reconstruction and revision of the existing facilities to enhance the quality of its products and competitiveness in domestic and global markets. TMK, the largest holding company in the Russian tube and pipe industry, manages several leading Russian tube and pipe enterprises, including TAGMET. TMK's total annual production capacity amounts to 5 million tons of tube products, making it the major manufacturer in Russia, producing more than 42% of Russian tubes and one of the three biggest tube manufacturers in the world.

The company's continuous efforts to improve product quality, renew production facilities, and commission new capacities have been a key focus. In 2006, a continuous casting mill was commissioned as part of TMK's investment program, and in 2008, the company expanded its steel transportation and intra-shop logistics capabilities at the Taganrog plant.
